Let’s talk about LOVE TRIANGLES…
This is how this shit works in literature:
- Lead Character (Probably Female): Usually awkward, finds herself unattractive and plain even though she unintentionally catches the eye of those around her. Often excels at a particular subject and nobody within the novel is better than her at it. Is oblivious to the affections of her best friend, who is usually of the opposite sex.
Examples: Bella Swan, Clary Fray, Katniss Everdeen.
- The Best Friend: Always of the opposite sex to the lead character. Has loved the lead, or had feelings for them, for a long time. Gets put through a hell of a lot of shit because lead character drags them through piles of it … unintentionally of course. Wouldn’t want out lead to be a bitch now, would we? Will go to extreme lengths to defend the lead and often dislikes, or even hates, the eventual partner.
Examples: Jacob Black, Simon Lewis, Gale Hawthorne.
- The Eventual Partner: The new guy/girl, that immediately catches the leads eye (not always for positive reasons). Often has nice hair, chiseled face and is athletic. Their bond with the lead is strong and they stick together, even though real life shit likes to try and break them apart. In competition with the best friend and there’s a strong dislike there, which is usually resolved by the end of the series. Usually. Not always.
Examples: Edward Cullen, Jace Wayland/Herondale, Peeta Mellark.
(I fucking hate love triangles. God bless Harry Potter's lack of them.)
"I think that you’re never going to question if Edward and Bella are going to stay together, and its never been that way. For me, that feels like the point that needs to really slam people."
— Kristen Stewart
Cos’ this guy is fucking incredible.
There is an audible rustle when she puts her hands in his hair.
You can hear his hair.
It’s that powerful and significant that you can actually hear its groans of frustration when moved during the throes of passion.
"I think Edward is just special… for Bella… I think that Edward and Bella have something… I think that Edward is just better." - Kristen Stewart
“It’s a funny thing. As soon as [Bella] becomes a vampire,
[she and Edward] kind of ignore their duties instantly. They just
wanna bone. It’s the most ridiculous thing. Really?
You just had a child. Really?”
Twilight Saga | Edward and Bella + “Forever”
I really love Bella Swan (even though I do take the piss out of her a lot) because not only did she die to bring her daughter into the world but she was also willing to die again to keep her here.
If that’s not an admirable quality, I don’t know what is.
